Abstract
A single base pair change has been found in a site corresponding to a regulatory region of the first enzyme in the proline biosynthetic pathway. This change alters feedback inhibition and is responsible for the synthesis of high levels of proline that enable Escherichia coli to withstand osmotic stress. This publication has 22 references indexed in Scilit:
