Abstract
Protein deprivation in the monkey has been shown to result in progressive loss of body weight, reduction of serum proteins, and generalized body edema. Marked villus atrophy of the intestinal mucosa was present after 18 weeks of protein deprivation. Intestinal mucosal disaccharidase, dipeptide hydrolase, and alkaline phosphatase activities were found to be reduced in the protein-deprived monkeys. Keywords
