Relaxation processes in matrix isolated C3

Abstract
The low value of the bending frequency ν2 in the upper A 1II state leads to efficient vibrational relaxation. The (0,0,0) level of this state populates by efficient intersystem crossing a lower lying triplet state. The vibrational ground state levels involving excitation in the low frequency (∼65 cm−1) ν2 fundamental exhibit severe lifetime broadening due to strong mixing with the lattice modes. The excited ground state levels involving only the stretching frequencies are, on the other hand, sharp.
