HORMONAL EFFECTS ON MAST CELLS. STUDIES ON LIVING CONNECTIVE TISSUE IN THE HAMSTER CHEEK POUCH

Abstract
In living connective tissue of the hamster cheek pouch microscopical examination revealed definite morphological changes of the mast cells following systemic administration of corticotropin and cortisone acetate as well as following topical deposition of cortisone acetate, hydrocortisone acetate and hydrocortisone-t-butyl-acetate. The action of somatotropin, thyrotropin, and thyroxine was also studied. Results of all the experiments are in agreement with those previously obtained by studies of dead, fixed tissue in animal experiments as well as in human pathology.
