Abstract
The incorporation of acetate-1-C14 into fatty acids and cholesterol of spinal cord and nerves was studied. Normal rats and rats made diabetic by alloxan injection were used. In comparison with normal values, cholesterol synthesis is depressed in diabetic spinal cord and nerve. Fatty acid synthesis is depressed in diabetic cord and elevated in diabetic peripheral nerve. Pyridine nucleotides stimulate lipogenesis and cholesterol synthesis in normal cord and nerve but do not influence the depressed production in the diabetic animal. Keywords
