Abstract
Ascorbic acid occurs in brain mostly in the reduced form, and is present in larger amts. in the brain of young than of adult animals. Deprivation of vitamin C for 3 weeks diminished the content of guinea pig brain to 1/5 the normal value but scarcely affected that of rabbit brain. The latter synthesizes ascorbic acid; the former does not. The relatively high ascorbic acid content of brain is probably connected with high respiration. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
