Spectra of some tetrathiometallates and tetraselenometallates

Abstract
The electronic absorption spectra of (NH4)2MoS4 and K3VS4 have been studied and discussed in terms of Viste and Gray's MO scheme of tetrahedral tetroxometallate anions. Diffuse reflection spectra of the compounds Cu3MVX4 and Tl3MVX4 (MV = V, Nb, Ta; X = S, Se) show that the energies of the absorption edges and absorption maxima increase in the sequence MV = V → → Nb → Ta and decrease in the order X = O → S → Se. The infrared spectra of the sulfides were also investigated.
