Abstract
To demonstrate the protective action of rutin against histamine shock, it was necessary to use a critical dose of histamine. An LD50 dose of 0.25 mg. of histamine base/kg. of body wt. intraven. was satisfactory. Although rutin may act in an indirect way and is thus not a true antihistaminic, it does protect against histamine shock. The results are contrary to the conclusions of Raiman, Later, and Necheles (Science, Oct. 17, 1947) that rutin protects guinea pigs from anaphylactic shock, but not against histamine shock. Keywords
