Abstract
A high correlation was observed between pigmentation, bound coagulase and sensitivity to typing phages in staphylococcal strains freshly isolated from routine clinical hospital specimens. In one series of coagulase positive staphylococci only 5 of 18 white strains were phage sensitive, but 244 of 247 pigmented strains were sensitive to phage. A simple test for phage sensitivity which may be used with phage typing procedures is described, employing a pool of 3 undiluted typing phages (79, 3B and 54).Keywords
