Abstract
Presentation of Case First admission. A thirty-six-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of pain in the joints.Five years previously he had an episode of pain, redness and swelling in the right wrist; the uric acid was 11.6 mg per 100 ml. With probenecid and phenylbutazone therapy the symptoms subsided, and the uric acid decreased to 5 mg per 100 ml. One year before entry rhinorrhea occurred, and bilateral otitis and mastoiditis were found at another hospital; purulent material was drained from each ear. Two months later left pleuritic pain associated with a nonproductive cough developed; an x-ray . . .
