Abstract
We report on the design and fabrication of a wavelength-tunable grating coupled surface-emitting laser. A curved second-order grating is used at the end of a tapered gain section to provide feedback as well as collimated surface out-coupling. Wavelength tuning is achieved by current injection into the grating section through a film of indium-tin oxide deposited on the grating surface. Low divergence single-frequency surface emission with /spl sim/1-nm wavelength tuning is demonstrated. Keywords
