Abstract
Total and restricted energy loss rates are calculated for magnetic monopoles of charge in Lexan polycarbonate. Range-energy curves are also presented. The restricted-energy-loss model is used to estimate the appearance of a monopole track in plastic detectors. The results are applied to the event observed by Price et al. and identified by them as a monopole. It is found that the observed etch rate is consistent with what one would expect for a slow magnetic monopole (, ). These results should also be of use to other investigators for both the design and analysis of monopole experiments.
