Lesser Cornstalk Borer Larval Density and Damage to Peanuts12

Abstract
Nonirrigated “Starr” peanuts, 28–58 days postplanting, were infested with small larvae of Elasmopalpus lignosellus (Zeller) to ascertain the relationship between larval density and yield. The yield from thirty-nine 0.002-ha plots with larval densities ranging from 3069–73,655/ha were plotted and described by a simple 3-parameter nonlinear function. Results show non irrigated Starr peanuts can tolerate larval densities from 9 to 14,448/ha without yield reductions.
