Abstract
Blood I in patients with various forms of thyroid disease was detd. by the permanganate acid ashing method of Riggs and Man. In 31 patients with hyperthyroidism the blood I ranged between 6.4 and 21.9 [gamma] %. In 7 patients with myxedema it varied from 0.3 to 1.7 [gamma] %. There was no overlapping with the normal range of 2.4 to 4.2 [gamma] % in 26 normal subjects. Six patients with nodular goiters but without symptoms of thyroid overactivity had blood I which did not differ significantly from normal. Elevated blood I values are invariably found in hyperthyroid patients. However, certain patients without manifest hyperthyroidism may also have an elevated blood I.This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
