Quadrupole Antishielding Factors of Ions

Abstract
Values of the quadrupole antishielding factor γ have been calculated for the Mn2+, Fe3+, Ga3+, and Ag+ ions, using the method of direct solution of the inhomogeneous Schrödinger equation for the perturbed wave functions. For the Fe3+ ion, the present value of γ (=-9.14) is appreciably larger in magnitude than that previously obtained by Burns and Wikner, resulting in a decrease of the calculated quadrupole moment of Fe57m as deduced from measurements using ferric compounds. The resulting value of Q(Fe57m) is +0.28×1024 cm2.
