Abstract
A study was made of the ability of tyrosine O-sulfate to act as a substrate for various arylsulfatase enzymes. Tyrosine O-sulfate is not a substrate for 2 of the mammalian arylsulfatases (arylsulfatases B and C) and is only feebly attacked by the 3d mammalian enzyme, arylsulfatase A. The failure of mammalian arylsulfatase C to hydrolyze tyrosine O-sulfate is unexpected and not in accord with theoretical predictions. The enzyme is also inactive towards glycyl-L-tyrosine O-sulfate and only feebly active towards tyramine O-sulfate.Keywords
