Abstract
Using plasma corticosterone as an index of adrenal cortical activity, the response to a single subcutaneous injection of Insulin was characterized. The thirtieth, and even the sixtieth daily period of hypoglycemia induced by this short-acting insulin preparation induced as great an increase in plasma corticosterone as that produced by the first injection. Animals previously "adapted" to daily periods of hypoglycemia induced by Protamine Zinc Insulin, showed no such "adaptation" to a subsequent period of hypoglycemia induced by Insulin (Toronto). A hypothesis is presented to "explain" these findings. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
