Abstract
The tibia matrix growth, Ca45 uptake and alkaline phosphatase concn. were depressed following 2000 r X-irradiation of one leg in young growing rats. No significant differences in any of the above measurements were found between the non-irradiated tibiae and tibiae from control animals. Alkaline phosphatase concn. of non-irradiated tibiae is a linear function of the log of the bone matrix wt. The depressing action of irradiation on the growth and metabolism of bone is discussed in terms of tibia alkaline phosphatase activity. Keywords
