Abstract
Clones of crested dogstail Cynosurus cristatus L. from 7 North Wales habitats and plants from 3 C. cristatus seed production areas (New Zealand, Ireland, and Kent, England) were grown in the Agricultural Botany Gardens, University College of N. Wales, Bangor, Caerns. Measurements of rapidity of maturation, forage production and morphological variation were made on 15 collections. Differences in characteristics are shown, and evidence is presented to show that habitat influences resulted in ecotypic variation. The biotic factor, in particular the influence of man and his use of the species for grazing and in seed production, is shown to influence C. cristatus more than climatic or edaphic factors.
