Abstract
A study of several grassland associations in North Wales was made to examine the edaphic limits of crested dogstail Cynosurus cristatus L. Examination of the soil nutrient status of 11 sites indicates the wide range of tolerance of the species. Exchangeable CaO in soils examined varied from 0.05% to 1.22%. Data shows that at low levels of CaO (0.05%) and P2O5 (0.41 mg./100 g.) the incidence of C. cristatus is reduced. However C. cristatus density in a sward is not only dependant upon soil nutrient status but is increased by grazing when grazing management is poor. Evidence is presented that the species is not drought-resistant.This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
