Abstract
Six of 40 rabbits showed a high degree of resistance to insulin, tolerating 66 units without convulsions. This was a spontaneous resistance, which, however, could be increased artificially by subjecting the animals to ascending non-convulsant doses. After thyroidectomy the resistant rabbits showed increased sensitiveness to insulin from 10- to 20-fold, while normal rabbits showed increased sensitiveness of 2.5-to 4.6-fold. A considerable resistance remained after thyroidectomy in the refractory rabbits, as they were never convulsed with the minute doses of insulin to which the normal rabbits responded after thyroidectomy.
