Abstract
Presentation of Case First admission. A twenty-eight-year-old man entered the hospital because of pain in the hip.Twelve years previously he was found to have proteinuria. Six years thereafter he had an episode of fever, arthralgia and a skin rash; L.E.-cell tests were positive, and prednisone was prescribed. Fifteen months before entry ecchymosis and pain in the right hip developed. He was admitted to another hospital, where aspiration of an abscess cavity in the hip yielded Salmonella typhimurium.
