Abstract
Oxidation-reduction potentials in ordinary and in continuous-flow cultures are a resultant of metabolic activities of the cells. Results of potentiometric studies on the rate of reduction of K ferricyanide in cultures and in suspensions of "resting" colon bacilli indicate that max. growth and metabolic activities per cell occur when sufficient foodstuffs and oxidant are sorbed and activated in unit time to provide, on interreaction, for the total respiratory and metabolic requirements of the cells in a favorable environment.This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
