Abstract
A serologic study was made of 134 strains of citrate-positive, anaerogenic bacilli isolated from persons, using L, H and O sera prepd. for each of 5 type strains chosen arbitrarily. Antigenic components similar to those of the type strains were demonstrated in 111, making possible a tentative classification. Sera from only 26 of the persons harboring these microorganisms were obtainable. These contained agglutinins, indicating that this group of bacilli is capable of stimulating the production of antibodies in man. Organisms biochemically and serologically similar to those isolated from human faces were concurrently encountered in ice used for packing fresh vegetables in refrigerator cars. Keywords
