Abstract
The authors calculate the cross sections for the process of charge exchange between ion and atoms in the case of one-electron systems using a molecular description of the collision. Results show that the charge-exchange process selectively populates one excited state of the ion. Extension of this conclusion to systems with more than one electron is discussed. Keywords
