Abstract
The rate of energy transfer between the radial and axial degrees of freedom of protons with measured temperature and number stored in a radio-frequency quadrupole ion trap is quantified. The results are discussed in terms of the theory of charged-particle collisional relaxation to thermal equilibrium. Keywords
