Coulomb Excitation of the First2+State ofMg24

Abstract
Coulomb excitation of the first excited state of Mg24 has been investigated by means of a coincidence experiment using a position-sensitive detector. Interpreting the data according to the semiclassical theory and correcting for quantal effects, we obtained a reduced transition probability of B(E2; 0+2+)=0.042±0.002 e2b2 and a static quadrupole moment of Q2+=0.305±0.064 eb.
