Didymium Eremophilum: A New Myxomycete From the Sonoran Desert

Abstract
SUMMARY Didymium eremophilum is a new species of Myxomycetes cultured from dead tissue of Carnegiea gigantea (saguaro) in moist chambers. It is characterized by small stalked sporangia, crystalline peridial-lime scales, absence of capillitium, and unusually ornamented spores. Its small plasmodia and sporangia, short duration of spore-to-spore culture, and ability to sporulate without a period of light or starvation may be adaptations to a fast-drying desert environment.
