Abstract
Sixty-seven patients with the irritable colon syndrome are reported. The symptom complex is considered to be a concomitant of an affective disorder, and the psychological factors associated with the genesis of the illness are discussed. Fifty-six patients received treatment with anti-depressant therapy, of whom 80% reported significant improvement. Keywords
