Abstract
A theoretical explanation is presented of some observations from recent C-laser experiments by introducing a novel mechanism for harmonic light emission. The theoretical model provides new insight into the properties of large-amplitude waves in the extremely inhomogeneous environment caused by strong profile modification of the critical-density plasma.
