Abstract
A new method for the quantitative determination of erythropoiesis was applied to 8 patients with non-metasta-sizing cancer of the uterine cervix. The method was found to give adequate results. Six patients showed an increased plasma Fe transport rate. Effective erythropoiesis was found to be greater than normal in 6 patients, indicating a moderate shortening of erythrocyte life span in 5 of them. Seven patients directed an increased amount of Fe to ineffective erythropoiesis, short lived erythrocyte production and/or Fe depots, even those with normal erythrocyte life span. It was not possible to find out which of these receives more Fe. Erythrocyte life time determinations using 51Cr and glycine-2-14C gave similar results. This publication has 15 references indexed in Scilit:
