Abstract
24 compounds chemically related to 3,5-diiodo-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde were examined for antithyroxine activity by the O2 consumption method in mice. Of these, 3,5-diiodo-4-ethoxybenzaldehyde and its dimethyl acetal and 3,5-diiodoanisaldehyde dimethyl acetal showed weak activity; the acetyl and carbethoxy derivatives of 3,5-diiodo-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 3,5-diiodo-4-ethoxybenzaldoxime were moderately active, whilst 3,5-diiodoanisaldoxime was highly active. Certain mono-iodo compounds related to 5-iodovanillin were also tested, but were without action. Keywords
