Evaluation of Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay of Narrow- and Broad-Spectrum Anti-Adult Southern Pine Beetle Serum1

Abstract
An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was conducted with broad-spectrum and specific anti-adult southern pine beetle sera against two-fold dilutions of 7.0 mg/ml antigens prepared from adult southern pine beetles, Dendroctonus frontalis Zimmerman; black turpentine beetles, Dendroctonus terebrans (oliver), and the engraver beetles, Ips avulsus (Eichhoff), Ips calligraphus (Germar), and Ips grandicollis (Eichhoff). Analysis of variance of absorbance values at all dilutions shows that broad-spectrum and specific sera can differentiate these genera and species. ELISA was markedly more sensitive than agar-gel double diffusion or counter-immunolectrophoresis with low-titer anti-insect sera.This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
