A gonadotrophin-releasing hormone agonist stimulates oxygen consumption and maturation of follicle-enclosed rat oocytes in vitro

Abstract
Rat oocytes were induced to resume meiosis by incubating isolated preovulatory follicles with LH [luteinizing hormone] or a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist [D-Ala6,des-Gly-NH210-GnRH ethylamide]. Oocyte maturation was accompanied by a 32% increase in O2 consumption by the denuded oocyte after incubation with LH and a 67% increase after incubation with the GnRH agonist.
