Abstract
Determination of hemolymph volumes of 3rd-stage Calliphora vicina larvae by dilution of the dye Evans Blue leads to an overestimate of the hemolymph volumes as compared to measurements made with 14C-inulin. This discrepancy is undoubtedly due to dye binding by certain larval tissues. A significant decrease in hemolymph volume occurs at the time when mature larvae cease feeding and commence wandering.
