Effect of pallidotomy on postural control and motor function in Parkinson disease.

Abstract
PALLIDOTOMY HAS been used to improve the symptoms of Parkinson disease (PD) when use of medications is ineffective or leads to disabling adverse effects. Pallidotomy is reported to improve rigidity and bradykinesia, and to decrease levodopa therapy–induced dyskinesias and tremor.1-8 However, the effect of pallidotomy on postural stability, another major cause of parkinsonian disability, has not been extensively studied.
