Abstract
THE reports of erythrocythemia occurring with renal tumor are sufficiently numerous to suggest more than a fortuitous association. It appears from the literature that the disease occurs in approximately 2 per cent of patients with hypernephroma.1 2 3 4 In a review of 135 consecutive proved cases of hypernephroma at the Cleveland Clinic 4 cases (3 per cent) of erythrocythemia were found. Benign tumors,5 unilateral hydronephrosis6 , 7 and polycystic kidneys8 have also been found in association with erythrocythemia. A cause- and-effect relation is further suggested by the fact that the erythrocythemia is corrected by removal of the tumor or diseased kidney, and may reappear . . .Keywords
