Abstract
To the Editor: Neither the articles on the Civilian–Military Contingency Hospital System (CMCHS) in the March 25 issue1 , 2 nor the letters in the response (September 16 issue)3 focus directly on the reason that this is such a divisive and painful issue for many physicians. It represents the classic dilemma that physicians face almost daily: What choice should be made when the needs of the patient are in conflict with those of society?
