Abstract
The Weberian apparatus of Clarias gariepinus is described at nine stages from hatching to 27 days old. Homologies are discussed. The claustrum, scaphium, tripus, and os suspensor appear to form one single piece. The scaphium is a basidorsal of the first vertebra, the tripus is a basiventral of the third vertebra, and the os suspensor is a basiventral of the fourth vertebra. At 9 days old the five anterior vertebrae are distinct and free; the complex vertebra is formed later and is composed at least of centra 3, 4, and 5. The intercalarium may not be a transformed second basidorsal, but an anterior part of the tripus. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
