Abstract
NEOMYCIN has been used for many years. Parenteral administration has been limited because of marked toxicity. The drug has been given by mouth not only for bowel "sterilization" but also for hepatic coma and for various intestinal infections.1 2 3 4 5 6 More recently, kanamycin7 8 9 10 11 12 13 and paromomycin14 15 16 have been used orally for similar purposes. Although kanamycin given parenterally has definite toxicity, it has been used much more than neomycin parenterally. Paromomycin for oral administration has been made available commercially quite recently.Side effects are generally minimal with either kanamycin, neomycin or paromomycin given by mouth. In most cases only a mild to moderate diarrhea . . .Keywords
