Abstract
A study is reported of the flexural bending fatigue of single cotton fibres, both in the form of raw cotton and after slack mercerization. The cell-wall thickness of fibres is shown to affect their flexural bending. An analysis of the distribution of fatigue life shows that a Weibull distribution can be made to fit the experimental data very well. The various parameters of the Weibull distribution, such as the shape and scale parameters, are shown to be related to various properties of the raw cotton fibres. Slack mercerization increases the fatigue life of the sample.Keywords
