Abstract
Bone remodelling activity was depressed in ribs from 18 patients treated for more than 2 mo. with adrenal cortical steroids, possibly due to some change in the activity of the mesenchymal cells which generate osteoclasts and osteoblasts. The speed with which an individual formation focus evolved was depressed in the ribs possibly due to a change in the activity of the osteoblast population. There was no increased bone resorption but possibly a decreased resorption. The material consisted of fresh hydrated mineralized cross sections of ribs stained with basic fuchsin by special methods. The methods of the study are described and the results presented in tabular form and in figures. There is a bibliography of 20 references. Keywords
