Abstract
Bovine fibrinogen and fibrin were treated by the dinitrophenyl method and the N-terminal residues determined. In the fibrinogen molecule 2 chains end in tyrosine and one in glutamic acid. The same unit wt of fibrin has 2 N-terminal residues of tyrosine and 4 of glycine. It was shown that the action of thrombin on fibrinogen results in the fission of glycyl-peptide bonds within the molecule, with the formation of fibrin and, it is suggested, the simultaneous removal of N-terminal residues of glutamic acid as part of a peptide. Fibrinogen and fibrin contain the same number of free e -N groups of lysine. Keywords
