Abstract
A novel image recording system with memory effect is proposed, which utilizes unique corona charging characteristics of thin films of an organic ferroelectric material, a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and tetrafluoroethylene (poly(VDF-TFE)). Using this recording system, a high-quality image was formed through the following successive processes: 1) uniform poling of the poly(VDF-TFE) film by corona charging, 2) image-wise depolarization of dipoles by a thermal pulse (latent image formation), and 3) uniform corona charging to attain the contrast potential for toner development (visualization of latent image). The fundamentals of the imaging process are also discussed in terms of the properties of the films. Keywords
