Abstract
A radioimmunoassay for antibody [Ab] to C. albicans is described. The test uses whole, killed organisms as the antigen and radiolabeled sheep anti-human globulins to quantitate different classes of Ab to C. albicans. The assay was simpler, more rapid and more sensitive than an Ouchterlony precipitin method. Results obtained from 2 groups of symptomless adults indicated that the range of Ab level was wider for a hospitalized group than for blood transfusion donors, particularly with respect to Ig[immunoglobulin]G and IgA Ab. The reason for the increase of Ab in hospital patients was not clear but may have been related to antibiotic therapy. The difficulties in interpretation of Candida serology were re-assessed in light of more detailed knowledge of the range and type of Ab to be expected in normal individuals. This publication has 14 references indexed in Scilit:
