Abstract
The luminescence in ferroelectric AgNa(NO2)2 induced by excitation of the lowest triplet state of the NO2- ions is measured in the time domain for temperatures between 3.1 and 330K including the region of the ferroelectric phase transition. From 50 to 330K the intensity decays exponentially and the time constant follows a 1/T law up to 280K. Between 10 and 40K the decay curve is complex. The ferroelectric phase transition at 312K is clearly exhibited in the temperature dependence of the initial intensity of luminescence and the time constant. In addition, the response of the spontaneous polarisation induced by transfer of excitation energy to the lattice is measured in the time domain. The time constant of the response shows critical slowing down at Tc.Keywords
