Abstract
To the Editor: The recent exchange of letters on chorionic villus sampling (April 26 issue)1 , 2 suggests an inappropriate picture of the current appraisal of this procedure. Although in October 19833 it was appropriate to quote Dr. Hobbins' estimate of a total loss rate as high as 12 per cent, as derived from the fetoscopy meeting of September 1983, it is not appropriate now.We maintain a registry of diagnostic cases using chorionic villus sampling that is approved and supported by the World Health Organization's Hereditary Diseases Programme and uses voluntary submission of data from investigators.
