Studies on a Combined Diphtheria-Pertussis-Tetanus-Poliomyelitis Vaccine

Abstract
As the effectiveness of poliomyelitis vaccine has been demonstrated, it is logical to consider the possibility of combining it with diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus vaccine (EPT). A combined vaccine (DPTP) consisting of diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, pertussis cells and poliomyelitis vaccine has been prepared and tested in comparison with DPT and poliomyelitis vaccines alone for toxicity, safety, potency, and stability. It was found that the diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus components produce an equal response in the triple and quadruple vaccines, and that the response to poliomyelitis in monkeys may be enhanced in the combined vaccine. The combined antigens appear to be stable at 2-5[degree]C for at least 12 months.Keywords
