Abstract
Molecular beam electric resonance spectroscopy has been used to study silicon and germanium monoxide in the presence of an external magnetic field. For silicon monoxide the first three vibrational states of 28Si16O were studied giving rotational magnetic moments, |gJ|, of 0.15359(12), 0.15450(11), and 0.15539(12) for v=0, v=1, and v=2, respectively. Similarly, the magnetic susceptibility anisotropies, , measured are −3.53(10), −3.66(8), and −3.80(10) kHz/kG2. The molecular quadrupole moment, θ, is calculated to be −1.1(5) esu · cm2. The first two vibrational states of germanium monoxide were studied for the 70Ge16O, 72Ge16O, and 74Ge16O species. |gJ| (70)=0.14179(10), 0.14254(12), |gJ| (72) = −0.14134(11), 0.14208(10), |gJ| (74)= −0.14089(10), 0.14164(12), respectively, for v=0 and v=1. . The sign of the dipole moment of GeO is +GeO− assuming gJ <0.
