Abstract
Kinetic theory of the self-modulation of a quasi-monochromatic ordinary wave propagating across an external magnetic field is presented. Explicit expressions of the dispersion and the nonlinear coupling coefficients are given for a Maxwellian plasma. In the limit of zero-temperature, a Karpman–Kruskal linear stability of the O-mode envelope is discussed. Keywords
